My astrology foundations are rooted in the Hellenistic tradition and integrated with contemporary techniques and considerations. Through ancient timing techniques, I look to see what topics are relevant to you in the now. Not every planet has something to say at every moment of your life. Different placements become active at different points. With timing techniques such as Annual Profections and Zodiacal Releasing, we can investigate what brought you to this point, where you are now, and what themes are coming up for you next.
Traditional Astrology
I utilize Whole Sign Houses, traditional rulership schemes, and timing techniques which are grounded in the Hellenistic practice. This allows me to use an event-based approach to the chart to understand different circumstances of an individual’s life. Modern techniques such as the use of outer planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto come secondary. So I do not use them as rulers of zodiac signs, but I do use them in the chart!
When analyzing a chart, I also apply the five traditional aspects (sextile, square, trine, opposition, and conjunction), bounds, planetary dignity, and other traditional astrology techniques. These are used to assess the condition of each planet and how they are communicating with one another.
Timing Techniques in Traditional Astrology
Annual Profections and Solar Returns
Annual Profections allow me to see what planets have the most influence on your life in the moment. Each year of life is assigned to a different house in your chart. Additionally, this house’s zodiac sign, its ruler, and the planets placed within tell me what’s speaking to you the loudest. Every year on your birthday, you enter a new “profection”. By applying this to the chart, I am able to track what transits are most relevant for you by looking at your Lord of the Year— or the planet activated by profection.
The Solar Return chart becomes that much more powerful in combination with Annual Profections. When the Sun returns to the exact degree it was at your birth, it creates a snapshot that provides an outlook for your year to come. In these readings, I assess the condition of your Lord of the Year both in transit and in your Natal Chart. This way, I can detail what to expect that year. I use the traditional astrology approach to Solar Returns. This approach applies the transit to your Natal Chart and does not use the Solar Return as a separate chart.
Traditional Astrology and Zodiacal Releasing
This is an ancient Hellenistic timing technique recently revived in the last few decades. It’s an incredibly powerful process that breaks up the life into sections. Then, I further assess these chunks of time. From birth, these periods begin with the Lots— or symbolic mathematical points within the chart. The technique then assigns a different amount of years based on the zodiac sign they fall in. Next, I take a qualitative look at each Zodiacal Releasing period. This assessment is based on your unique chart placements in order to help you track the patterns of the technique in detail.
Currently, I use the Lot of Spirit and the Lot of Eros for Zodiacal Releasing. Spirit is used to determine directions of personal growth and action as well as “career” development. And I use Eros for romantic endeavors and relationship developments— both platonic and romantic. My approach to this technique uses a retrospective starting point to find the recurring threads that have aligned themselves through your journey so far.
This technique relies on an accurate birth time as Lot calculations are determined by the exact Ascendant degree. Further, a good memory of events or detailed records are also necessary for the best results. For individuals under 25 years of age, I do not recommend Zodiacal Releasing due to societal pressures around success and age.
